Gallstones and gall sludge what does it mean ?

I recently had an EUS (a scope they put down your throat to see inside)done of my stomach and gallbladder. I was told I had many gallstones and sludge in and on my gallbladder. I am going for an ultrasound of my gallbladder next week to see if my doctor wants to send me to a surgeon. What exactly is gallsludge and gallstones and what are the effects of both? I have been researches and found plenty on gallstones but nothing on sludge. Please help.

Here are some sites which talk about gallbladder sludge (also called biliary sludge). It can explain it better than me trying to do it! Best wishes....

Think of sludge like the mucus/snot when you have a cold.
The effects are the same actually; both are messing up your stomach and it is better to have it removed.
Now days, the procedure is a lot simplier, less painful, little scars and you will enjoy food more.
Hope this helps your mind.

i had an ultrasound done for the gallbladder, and went back to doc for results, they said i had gallstones, and wanted to remove the gallbladder..
i said ok, surgery is better then this pain continueing,,, so in for surgery, in after care the nurse comes out and says they took care of the hernia too and there were no stones only sludge, so they removed the galbladder anyway...

?????? i did not know i had a hernia, apperently neither did the doctors,, even though the surgean had said it may have been there for a while,, as for the sludge i asked why i was told i had stones, but there were non there now, and he said the sludge may have looked like stones but was actually thickening of the bile and other gunk, and the gallbaldder was not functioning properly anymore, thats why they still removed it...
