Those of you who have had Gallstones/Gallbladder Removal - are you overweight or have other health issues?

I just had my gallbladder removed 3 months ago and was told I most likely developed the gallstones while pregnant. But also I have read that obese or overweight people are more likely to develop gallstones. Since I got pregnant I have gained about 50 lbs. and am very overweight. Along with the gallstones, I have plantar fasciitis (ouch my heels hurt!) and my hip has been bothering me. Has anyone else who's had gallstones or gallbladder removal had any other health issues? Have any of you gained/lost weight since then? Have you had trouble losing weight since having your gallbladder removed?

Actually, pregnancy CAN cause you to be more prone to gallstones due to the higher levels of cholesterol. Why did you even waste your time (and mine) answering? Couldnt you have just called me fat and been done with it? Are you sure you're a Nurse? After your answer, I cant help but feel sorry for any of your patients you might think are overweight...

gall stones are linked to obesity, saying that they developed while pregnant was a nice way of saying you got fat. I did the same thing. NO, it doesn't interfere with your ability to lose weight, stuffing your mouth does. Not exercising regularly does, and those are the two things that got you where you are. You need to consider your life style and dietary patterns, change them, and stop trying to find excuses in other ailments for not losing the extra weight. It is self defeating.

When I was in nursing school, the way we remembered the leading risk factors for gallbladder problems were " female, fat, and 40". No joke. Does this mean that every gallbladder pt is fat? No. Some are even male. There is a direct relation to fluctuating hormone levels, which occurs after having a baby. This is probably the cause for your problem. I would be more inclined to suggest an overweight issue if you were overweight your whole life, and didn't recently give birth. Mine was most likely due to being overweight. Being overweight can tax your joints, and stress your feet. This is especially true if you're not used to being overweight, like having a recent or sudden gain. Pop the baby in the carriage this spring, and walk it off. You'll feel better. And please don't look for reasons to beat yourself up. Enjoy that new baby! God Bless!

Female, fat, and 40...well, I had one of the three "symptoms"!

I suffered with undiagnosed gallbladder disease from about the age of 12. At about 34, I managed to convince a doctor to do an ultrasound, at which point, my gallbladder was not functioning at all.

For years (like 22 of them) I'd complained of terrible pain in the area of my solar plexus, but since I was so young and so thin, my gallbladder was never suspected...even though I have a family history of gallbladder issues.

I'm bitter as hell I suffered as long as I did, but thankfully, the surgery was a success and I've been pain-free (in my belly, anyway) since.

Oh, no, I didn't gain or lose weight since the surgery, and I eat lots of fatty foods (without trouble).

Good luck.

I had mine removed over 22 years ago. I was neither fat nor 40 so the doctor joked about it. Soon after surgery I had a craving to eat roast chicken and the doctor let me have it, Later on, on my own, I decided to avoid fatty food for a while. I did not lose or gain weight. I eat fatty food now. When I feel stuffy in the gb area I cool off the fatty stuff and give it a rest. Its up to you. Take care.
