Gallstones question?

I have read that a dr usually find out that a person has galstones on accident when looking for something else I wanted to know if you have ever had gallstones or know of anyone who has what exacally are the symptoms...I have been having lots of heartburn and indigestion and pain between my shoulder blades also get ringing in my ears and dizziness after I eat and when that happens imidiatly follows the stomach burning
I have gone to the dr and they have done lots of test but not for gallstones they have not found anything they tell me I have GERD but I have never heard of someone with GERD with all these symptoms I have please help

The first test for biliary disease (a spectrum from biliary colic/symptomatic cholelithaisis, choledocholithiasis, gallstone pancreatitis) is an ultrasound of the upper abdomen.
Combining that with history and physical exam, as well as lab tests (WBC, alkaline phosphatase, ALT, AST, Total and direct Bilirubin, and Amylase and Lipase) give the first hints at the problem.
Classically, gallstones will cause right upper abdominal pain for 15-30 min after eating, sometimes consistenly with fatty and spicy foods. More severe blockages can add fevers and chills, as well as a more prolonged duration of pain. An even worse situation can cause jaundice and pancreatitis.
LOTS of people have gallstones, most with no symptoms (only 20% of gallstones will cause problems).
GERD is diagnosed by trial and error, usually trying proton pump inhibitors (prevacid, nexium, protonix) or H2 blockers (tagamet/pepcid, etc) to see if the symptoms improve. It can cause a whole host of symptoms from heartburn, bad breath, asthma, ear infections, apnea spells (in children), pneumonias, etc.
It sounds as though you could have GERD. Give the meds a try and if it doesnt improve, insist on an ultrasound of the abdomen and take it from there...
If stones, see a surgeon...
If fevers, jaundice, or intense ripping pain, see a doctor, or go to the ER. Good luck...

Everything you described could be a sign of stones except for the ringing in the ears part

That doesn't sound anything like gallstones. Me, my mother-in-law, and my sister-in-law all had to have our gallbladders removed. When you have gallbladder problems (stones included) you will get a really bad pain toward your right-upper side (where the gallbladder is located) The only similar thing between this and GERD is that certain foods can trigger an attack.

What you are saying sounds a lot like what my mom was going through and, not to scare you, but it turned out that she has some sort of cancer of the intestines. I'm not saying you have this, but it took her a while to find the cause of her pain. I can't remember the name of the cancer but i do know that it a cancer that people live their entire life without knowing they have it because it doesn't grow fast and doesn't spread easily.

Your symptoms sound like they could be gallstones. I have gallstones and have tried flushing them twice with olive oil and lemon juice. They will come out, but they do come back.

Celiac is also something you want to look into after eating. Its a wheat allergy. If I eat wheat, immediatley after I get heartburn, indigestion, nausea and dizzy. My dad, who also has it, has all those symptoms and sometimes ear ringing. Watch what you are eating for about a week and how you feel afterwards.

Good luck :)

You need to insist they test for gallstones, you have the same symptons I had. I was only twenty one and so they didn't suspect my symptoms were gallstones, I almost died before they found them. My liver was shut down and my pancreas was swollen to twice it's normal size because of blockages in my bile ducts from so many stones. Insist on tests.

Research an orthoprdic exam called "Murphy's Sign." If you get a positive result, then you should go see another Dr. The positive exam indicates "cholithistitis." The spelling is probably messed up, but look up how to perform the test and have someone do it on you

Yes, stomach burning, Gerd, acid reflex are all a sign of gall stones. I went to the hospital last year with those symtons and I had pain in upper part of my stomach and very sick. I had 9 gallstones and emergency surgery. After my surgery I noticed my acid reflex was gone and I had suffered with that the previous year on a daily basis. It must all be related but your symptons sound the same so get checked for it by getting a stomach cat scan. I wouldn't wait.. I did and I made it in the nick of time. You will feel better if they remove them and all those symptons you discussed will go away. good luck

It sounds like you have the classic symptoms for a gall bladder disorder. The pain between the shoulder blades is the real key symptom. You may eventually have a gall bladder attack. When this happens you have the pain between your shoulder blades, stomach flu like symptoms and the worst pain you will ever have on your lower right upper torso where the gall bladder is located. I had 3 such attacks and thought it was stomach flu. The pain got so bad that I went to the ER. Upon examination it was discovered that I had gallstones that were blocking the duct leading into the liver. I had my gallbladder successfully removed and all of my GERD and other symptoms went away. If you do get blocked it is possible for your gall bladder to explode, make your body toxic and it can even kill you.
