Gallstones diet? |
I have gallstones and have to eat a low fat diet , what kind of deit do i need to eat?? I was diagnosed with gallstones about 2 months ago and am currently on the waiting list for surgery. You have to remember it's not just a low fat diet - oil is one of the biggest hidden triggers for pain. The big no-no's are mayonnise, ANY cooking oils (olive, peanut, canola etc), egg yolks, all dairy (except milk which actually only has max. 4% fat), nuts... and the stuff you already know is bad for you like chocolate and chips. Take-away like chinese, indian, thai etc is a no even if it has veg. A good rule of thumb is - if it comes in a packet and has more than 3 ingredients then DON'T EAT IT. You should be on lots of fruit and veg 'made-from-scratch' meals. Red meat can be ok if it's really lean, chicken is alright in moderation, and fish is great. Basically, just eat the way everybody knows they should. :-) Also, if you are having gall pain then cucumber is a miracle. Blend it, juice it or mash it, it doesn't taste really exciting but can alleviate pain if you can't get to a Dr or Hospital in a hurry. That just means you have to eat things that are low in fat. Doesn't have to be a particular diet. Cut out things that are high in fat {maybe not altogether} like red meat & stuff like that. |
