What do doctor's test for with prenatal tests?? Can they detect liver damage/disease with the prenatal tests?

Hi,
I had some prenatal tests done a while ago, since I'm currently pregnant. I was wondering what kind of things are doctor's testing for with those tests?? Since, I had blood drawn (3 tubes) when they analyze the blood would they be able to detect liver damage or liver disease or would they have to be looking for that specifically? Like would I need to have asked them that I am concerned that I could possibly have liver damage or liver disease to get them to look for that, or would it be so obvious when analyzing my blood, that they would have detected it during the prenatal tests? Hope this question isn't too confusing, just that like I said, I do have a concern as to the condition of my liver becuz I used to take alot of pain killers due to gallbladder attacks that I used to get years ago (before finally having it removed a couple years ago). I mostly used to take Tylenol Extra strength for the pain, but if we didn't have Tylenol, I'd take any pill that was labeled pain killer

If you liver was too bad they would have been able to tell from the blood test.

General prenatal test include the following:
Alpha-fetoprotein screening (AFP)?
This is a blood test that measures the level of alpha-fetoprotein in the mothers' blood during pregnancy. AFP is a protein normally produced by the fetal liver and is present in the fluid surrounding the fetus (amniotic fluid), and crosses the placenta into the mother's blood. The AFP blood test is also called MSAFP (maternal serum AFP).

AFP screening may be included as one part of a 2, 3, or 4-part screening, often called a multiple marker screen used. The other parts are:

hCG - human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (a hormone produced by the placenta)
estriol - a hormone produced by the placenta
inhibin - a hormone produced by the placenta

Blood is usually drawn from a vein between the 15th and 20th weeks of pregnancy (16th to 18th is ideal).
The blood sample is then sent off for laboratory analysis.
Results are usually available within one to two weeks or less, depending on the laboratory.

No.

sometimes a liver panel will not show an elevation in ALT and AST-which usually indicates a liver issue. this is found in those a lot with the hepatitis c infected-that is why HCV goes unnoticed.

you would have to ask the doctor about testing for liver disease.

good luck
