Has anyone ever experienced H.E.L.L.P. Syndrome? |
At 6 months pregnant in 2003, I went to the hospital believing I was having gallbladder issues. Instead, I was diagnosed with a condition called HELLP Syndrome. Has anyone else experienced this? I have had ongoing issues with edema in my legs since and would like to know if anyone else has as well? My doctors have all said I was cured of the disease once I delievered my baby (3 months prematurely), but I don't believe that is true. According to this and several other articles I glanced at, fetal presentation (child birth) is the only cure for this condition. There are very rare instances of it protracting after delivery, but typically symptoms usually subside within 6 weeks post partum. "HELLP Syndrome occurs in tandem with preeclampsia, but because HELLP Syndrome's symptoms may happen before preeclampsia's three findings (high blood pressure, protein in the urine, and swelling), they may be misdiagnosed as symptoms of gastritis, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), acute hepatitis, gall bladder disease, and other conditions. As a result, the mother may not get the right treatment, leaving both mother and baby that much more at risk. See the link below which is an excellent site on HELLP" |
