Well, GHB is a central nervous system depressant. As a result it can slow your breathing and heart rate. It used to be sold as a sedative. At a certain dose (or at a lower dose when mixed with other drugs/alcohol) it can cause the user to enter a deep coma-like sleep. Convulsions (another CNS effect of GHB) can occur during this state of sleep.
