Gerd : Never drink again? |
If you have GERD (w/ heartburn etc.) can you never drink alcohol?People say alcohol makes it worse, but if its not one of my personal triggers, then couldi drink?People say GERD is caused by alcohol, does this mean the alcohol weakens the stomach muscle temporarily, or permanaently?plz only awnser if you understand this!thanks! Alcohol only temporarily weakens the stomach. The only alcohol that makes GERD worse is beer, and it doesn鈥檛 necessarily make it worse, it just gives you bad heartburn. GERD gets worse with age. Also avoid caffeine, tobacco, milk, foods containing peppermint or spearmint, and carbonated beverages, and make sure your on a low-fat diet You don't have to give it up completely, Just in small amounts. Talk to your doctor about it. I have GERD and I'm not drinking for a little while because it's been flaring up bad for the last month. After it calms down, I'll indulge again. Just moderate how much you drink and be careful what you eat when you drink and don't lie down for a few hours after you drink. |
