GERD/anxiety/gagging reflux? |
with much experience/research, does anyone know which of the following works best for GERD? Before Prilosec was available over the counter, my doctor prescribed for me Nexium, which is expensive. Then he told me about Prilosec and I could buy it over the counter and really take it every day. Because they told you not to take it over so many weeks, you should see your doctor for more serious problems, but some people don't have serious problems, just that things like Tums or Rolaids don't help their situations. He said it was safe to take every day forever!!!!! You just have to make sure you don't have throat cancer and stomach cancer which can cause this symptoms. Other than that it is like taking a Pepcide every day, nothing more. Mucinex is a chest and sinus mucus drug, not for you stomach. It is for congestion only. Read the box, it will tell you what it does Prilosec used to be prescription and was almost $3 a pill. It is now over the counter for about $30 for a month supply. I know the box says not to take for more than 2 weeks but I took it by prescription for years. It used to be advertised as "the purple pill". When it was getting ready to be OTC the manufacturer came out with the improved purple pill, Nexium. but no one tells you that. I have a bad case as well. I've tried all of the things you listed except for Mucinex, Protonix, and Prilosec and the best combination for me so far has been Aciphex along with Zantac combined. It really seems to depend on the person though. I also try my best to stay away from spicy foods and anything high in acid. Good luck Is it possible that you have a Hiatal Hernia, combined with acid reflux symptoms. This type of hernia is the only internal hernia, it is usually near the top of the stomach. It will allows acids and other digestive juices, to back into the esophagaus, in the same manner of Gerds. Staying in a vertical position, after eating is helpful, using gravity to keep things down. Don't eat anything, one hour before bed, and no drinks, say 1/2hr. I would address your anxiety issue, as well. If you are aware of situations that raise your level of anxiety, try to avoid those, if possible. I know, easier said, then done. I guess I mean, try to modify your behaviours, to avoid having anxiety behaviours. Don't put yourself in a place that is uncomfortable, until you feel you can face it, head on. I would think an antidepressent would be helpful, see the doc soon if possible. It's better to get it under control, so that your life is not dictated by this. And, the double wammy is, your GERD symptoms are likely irritated by, or may be caused by the anxiety. And the cycle keeps going, do you see what I mean? Anyway, I hope you feel better, and get your questioned answered. Good luck. |
