I am being treated for gerd with meds. But I have had severe stomach pains. I have had this for a long time?

but it is getting worse. Im not sure if it is related to the gerd or not. I have a sharp pain that starts at my shoulder blade and am light headed and dizzy. Has anyone experienced this with gerd. Am having shortness of breath at times also.

Hi. You need to take your symptoms very seriously (even if your doctor doesn't!). There really aren't enough details in the info. you give to say anything specific about what might be going on. But, the symptoms you describe can be indications of potentially very serious problems, such as:
1) Ulcers
2) Gallbladder problems
3) Pancreatic problems (including cancer)
4) even Heart problems (especially in women)

Why are you on 'meds' for gerd? Why is your doc not working with you to find and fix the cause of the gerd? (There are many causes, but they can be found and fixed!). Note: the meds create the potential for causing many new problems, including: H.pylori infections/ulcers, maldigestion, malabsorption of some vitamins and minerals, etc. Simply, meds do not treat the cause, they mask the symptoms that should be telling you that you need to find the problem, and meds cause NEW problems!

You need a second (even a third) opinion. Demand it or just go find another doc.

Lastly, I would like to recommend a very educational and helpful book on these types of problems. It is written by Sherry Rogers', M.D.. She is a leading researcher, clinician and teacher of physicians. The book is called: "No More Heartburn". It is available at Amazon.com or from the publisher at 1-800-846-6687. This is a very powerful book and includes all the scientific research references to back up the information (research I guarantee your doctor has not read).

Best wishes and good luck!
