How does one treat toe-nail fungal infections?

A condition characterized by the big toe's nail lifting and discoloration of the nail and nail-bed, how does one treat this?

Does anyone who has had this condition have any advice to offer?

Bleach + hot water, I think that's a bad idea.

Over the counter drugs: got an antimycotic nail lacquer (Ciclopirox). Been using it for a week. Too early to tell. Pack includes files to file away the nail entirely.

Lamisil? None of that in my neck of the woods.

Lamisil (terbenafine) is the only antifungal over the counter that has been proven to kill fungus instead of just retarding its growth. I would seek one of the Lamasil AF creams. Lamisil comes in a tablet form as well but it is only available via prescription and the cost is substantial.

dont worry about it go to the pharmacist and let him give u some kind of ointment that will help and it will go away while the nail is growing

Think my friends baby had something similar and i think the only way to cure it is t get antibiotics from the doctors. Don't think you can stop the nail though if it is going to come off then it will.

You could also pop into your local chemist and ask a pharmacist but i think going to a doctor would be your best bet.

There are topical over the counter drugs you can use like Lamilsil, and there are also numerous perscription drugs doctors can prescribe for this condition.

I had it on both my big toes. I would get some hot water with bleach (the laundry type) and soak my feet in it for about thirty minutes.You have to do this everyday.

If it's truly a fungal infection, you need a prescription medication. An over-the-counter med will not clear it up completely.
So see you doctor.

I asked the Doc what to do about mine. He said not to waste my money on the stuff on the pharmacy shelves, and that the prescription treatment is temporary at best. Most of my nails have it. By accident, I found the solution is to have the nail removed so all the fungus dies before the nail grows back. The wife caught my bare toe with a piece of furniture we were moving, ripped the darned nail right off. Bled like mad, hurt even worse. But the nail grew back normal, no fungus. You could probably have it done in the doctor's office with it deadened to not hurt. But is it worth it? I could be wrong, too. Check with a foot specialist to see what they think.

A long course of an antifungal drugs such a Lamisil. Gradually a normal nails will grow in after four to six months.
