Fungal infection?

i have this rash type spot on the side of my ring finger. its not spreading and i thought this was weird, i asked my anatomy teacher and she said it is most likely a fungal infection. if i put neosporin on it it will go away while i have a band aid over it, but then comes right back. she told me to get an anti-fungal so i asked my mom to pick one up. all she could find with "anti-fungal" on it is tinactin. ive been putting it on, it says to use it twice a day, i usually forget and put it on once, and sometimes skip a couple days. ive been doing this for a couple weeks now and there is no improvement. is it really a fungal infection? does tinactin not work for any fungal infection besides athlete's foot? do i just need to put it on twice a day for a while?

i dont want to have to go to the doctor. im cheap.

Go see a doctor! You have a rash that's been ongoing for what sounds like at least a week. You've tried two over the counter remedies with no luck - see a doctor for a real diagnosis and treatment.

could be from a chemical, do u work? go to the doctor and he/she should be able to help

you can buy clotrimazole over the counter. Its the best otc, basically a weaker version of the prescription spectazole. As long as it isn't an open wound you should be fine. Put a band-aid over it until it soaks in.

Choose any antifungal used for athletes foot , jock itch or ringworm.

I prefer Lamisil...works faster.

fungal infections are not usually on the fingers.. you might have a contact dermatitis from the nickel or copper, or metal component of your ring.also it could be eczema....
Also the sweat that builds on the finger can cause the rash and also if it gets wet and is not dried properly, it will cause it to break out.
You need to get your ring off... then get yourself a greasy vaseline and rub it in well. do not cover with a bandaid, only maybe cotton gauze and wear a cotton glove on it at night with vaseline on it...
make sure you dry your hands well and stay away from contact with metals...
keep your hands out of detergents and if you wash dishes, wear gloves, do not wear anything on your hands that will cause them to sweat.....if they are infected you can use the polysporin ointment twice daily, the vaseline (greasy stuff)(not cream or lotion)use as often as you think of it....

Put it on twice a day. You can't expect it to work if you don't follow directions. Use you yahoo calendar and put in the times of day you should be doing it and have it send you an email about 15 minutes before you want to apply it.
You should pick the every day option and make 2 notices. One for the morning and one for the evening.
If that does not get rid of the problem go to a dermatologist or an infectious disease doctor.

Finger rash on ring fingers are common.

There are several things that cause it.

Here is the drill, crank through it until you find the right one for your finger:

Moisture- dish washing rash, give the hands a rest, use rubber gloves and dry hands after using them.

Hot shower reaction- rash and itching after taking a hot show indicates Histamine release, Claritin 10 mg will get results.

Foot fungus- check between your toes and treat with Tinactin or other OTC anti-fungal for relief of the fingers.

Soap or perfume (shaving lotion) reaction-
stop chemical, soap, lotions and apply Hydro-cortisone cream (OTC).

Reaction to all soaps- carefully wash all residue of soap and dry fingers after use.

Contact Dermatitis- something you are contacting is irritating the area, review what touches the area and remove it, apply Hydro-cortisone cream.

Itching and rash- unknown origin, camphor and or menthol home remedy

Shingles rash (herpes zoster) apply Salusil.

Scabies- Elimite or other brand of permethrin

The bottom line is

stop using anything that could be causing a reaction,

treat any fungus you find on your body (toes, trunk, genital area),

keep the area dry and

symptomatic relief can be obtained with hydrocortisone cream in many cases.
