Whats the best way to cure very severe fungal nail infection?

I have had this infection (I think it is fungal) for about 15 years it has never been treated both my big toes are about 1cm thick and i have 5 other toes affected (only 1 as bad) It doesnt really hurt but is very unsightly. I know the creams and varnish type cures will not work on my toes.

You are right that creams won't work. The choice is between lacquers and oral preparations. Loceryl lacquer and Lamasil tablets, though there are others.

The lacquer is applied one or twice a week. It is a bit slower than the tablets, I tend to prefer it since it is non-toxic and virtually devoid of side effects.

In a severe infection you are taking about 6 months to 2 years of therapy. It is also important to have a general health screen in case you have diabetes, as severe fungal nail infections are more common in diabetics.

go to see your Dr - you can get tablets and cream - if you dont do something now it will just get worse

A long course of antibiotics, or you can file down the nail to get rid of the thickness, then paint some laquer onto the nail. It's available on prescription from the doc. It takes a long time to treat, though, upto a year to clear it completely.

a course of anti biotics will clear it up! go to the doctors!!!

if the creams are not working then you might need oral medications or even yet an operation. see your doc for this. :-)

you need to go doctors and get anti fungi tablets

There is a nail lacquer that works Penlak but the best way for it to work is get a dremmel( you know a rotary toll) and grind the nail some once a week when you remove the medicine.Ask a Dr. about this because the medicine is by prescription.
I did this and my foot Dr. said he didn't think I would ever be able to get rid of it completely but was faithful with the medicine and dremmal now I have one big toe completely healed.
My Dr. said he was going to start selling the dremel in his office because of the difference of what I did.
