Fungal infection of the toenails? |
I have an infection of both of my toes next to my big toes. It is a very minor infection, with just some thickening of the end of the nail, occupying about 25% of the nail. I have been commnced on loceryl nail paint which is supposed to have the best outcome.Anyone else used this stuff before? how long does it take? I have read it can take around 6 months to treat so iam not to happy about that. Thanks in advance Use Vick's vapor rub right along the base of the nail, daily. It might also help to file the top layer of the bottom of the nail and thin it. fungal infections themselves are very difficult to get rid of... then you add in that the fungus is trapped under a nail, and that makes it a real pain in the **** ... all treatments are going to take a minimum of 4 to a maxiumum of 11 months (6 months being the average) to get rid of a fungal infection of a nail.... the only quicker way would be if you had the entire nail removed and the medicine applied directly to the exposed nail bed... sorry... the 4-11 months just depends on how quickly your toenails grow...and on everyone they are the slowest growing nails... The length of time depends on how fast your nails grow. Even if the treatment works so that the new nail growing at the base is clear of fungus, you have to wait until the clear part has grow all the way out to the end. If the treatment is stopped while there's any infected nail left, it will reinfect the whole nail. I had this on both my big toes and none of the anti-fungal ointments worked, even the prescription ones. I ran across an old home remedy of soaking the toes in white vinegar for 1/2 an hour each day and that eventually cleared it up. |
