How can you get frostbite?

Add some answers with:
snow and no snow

When exposed to very cold temperatures, skin and underlying tissues may freeze, resulting in frostbite. The areas most likely to be affected by frostbite are your hands, feet, nose and ears.

You can identify frostbite by the hard, pale and cold quality of the skin that has been exposed to the cold. As the area thaws, the flesh becomes red and painful.

One should be aware of factors that can contribute to frostbite, such as extreme cold, wet clothes, wind chill, and poor circulation. This can be caused by tight clothing or boots, cramped positions, fatigue, certain medications, smoking, alcohol use, or diseases that affect the blood vessels, such as diabetes.

your extremities are exposed to extreme cold for an extended period of time

One way to get frostbite is to handle something like dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide). It's extremely cold, and will freeze flesh practically on contact. As to frostbite in the snow - getting wet and then getting cold is a sure way to hypothermia and frostbite; never wear cotton in the snow!
