What are dangers and contraindicationsto massage for acute trauma, tumour, open wounds, frostbite, acute soft? Massage is contraindicated for all of the problems that you have mentioned. Massage can cause increased pain and damage to a person that has been seriously injured. If you massage directly over a tumor, especially a malignant tumor, can greatly increase the risk of causing the cancer to spread. And it can cause more damage to open wounds and frostbite. Thank you very much Scooch and Marty Report It There is not enough supporting evidence to suggest if massage will spread the cancerous affects of tumors. In general, massage has been given a caution flag to these unanswered research questions because there plainly has not been enough research studies. Any physician who works with cancer will more than likely not prevent a person with cancer from getting a massage. From the physician's point of view, the massage will have a more positive systemic affect than any negative affect. The other stuff, acute trauma, open wounds, frostbite, etc., their is obvious tissue damage which is very vulnerable to reinjury. |
