My daughter is pregnant and the father of the child has "fragile X syndrome"?

Will the baby be ok if he ( the childs father) is ok ? The father is highly functional. He has some problems but can something more severe then what he has be passed to the baby ?

-Can you add onto this question & tell us what it is...?

http://www.fragilex.org/html/s... Report It

You'll find out soon. Hope the baby's happy and healthy!

what is fragile X syndrome? i have never heard of it? is it something to do with their bones?? give us more detail.

I have no idea what fragile X syndrome is but I hope everything works out o.k.GOD BLESS!

i would have the baby tested first thing after it's born so then you and your daughter would know what to do from there. there's a 50% chance that the child could inherit

it may be passed on. check wiht gynae to be sure

fear not your grandchild is safe, as far as transmitting it to their children:

Females have two X chromosomes and thus have double the chance of having a working FMR1 allele. Females carrying one X chromosome with an expanded FMR1 gene can have some signs and symptoms of the disorder or be normal.

Males with the fragile X cannot transmit it to any of their sons (since males contribute a Y chromosome, not an X, to their male offspring.)
