Who is the best doctor to see for Fragile X Syndrome?

Who is the best doctor to see for Fragile X Syndrome?

OK, I will do my best to answer this. Fragile X can cause anywhere from mild mental retardation to severe autism (right???) So the person can see a regular general practitioner, a psychologist, or even a DAN Doctor, who will try to treat the patient through alternative medicine. The website www.autismwebsite.com or www.tacanow.com or the www.gfcfdiet.com might be of help??? Whatever you do, just be calm and do what's right for your individual situation. Good Luck!!!

This is best handled by a Geneticist. This type of Doctor arranges the correct tests for X syndrome disorders. You may need to have a Peditrician refer you. Or you can contact your state's office for developmental disabilities and they can handle the referral. Some university hospitals have staff who diagnosis FXS. Best of luck to you!

I have a son & a daughter with fragile X syndrome. We see a pediatrician that was open to learning everything about it with us to help us treat him the best.

The doctors (Hagermans I think is their last name) who found the syndrome and still researches it are at the MIND instutute in California and I would see if your health insurance would pay for you to go see them. Every parent of a fragile X child that has been to see them has came back empowered about their children and more optimistic about their childrens future.

I would go here to get more information on research for fragile X and to join the listserv which is a group of parents all over the world that come together for information, support etc on their fx kids: www.fraxa.org

I would also visit this site for information on fragile X information in general: www.nfxf.org

Hope it helps and good luck
