Thigh Bone fractures?

My brother met with an accident 20 days back and both the Thigh bones were fractured. He is 29 yrs old. Doctors have put permananet rods. Doctors say that he will be able to walk normally and he will be on his own. Can any one give me some inputs, how his life will be affected because of this (as faf as his health is concerned)? Will people with this kind of fractures walk and work without much difficulty? Will it affect his sexual life?

Since I still have rods in place, I will tell you when there is cold weather, I suffer. When there is damp cold days, I really suffer. Walking up stairs is almost like a tooth ache. This is something that is life changing, regardless of all the modern medical wonders.

outcome is very good, the rods will not affect him at all, a little physical therapy and he'll be fine. if down the road the rods give him a problem he can always have them taken out as long as the femur heels properly. i don't know how extensive his fractures are, but the femur is a very strong bone and when it heels it will be stronger. oh it has nothing to do with his sexual performance. he be ok as far as this is concerned

he will be completely helpless for a couple of month or so, until the bone is pretty well healed. it will take a fair bit of physical therapy to get to walking again. I fractured my left femur about 2 yrs ago. it took me 6 months to be walking normally. but now i run, bike swim play frisbee and have a pretty darn good sex life.
the key is a positive mental attitude and hard work during physical therapy.

metal rod - is an intramedulary rod or intramedulary nail or pin

If your brother has a decent health plan and the doctors do good work then he should be right as rain within the year. Also have to factor in your brother's over all health but a majority of humans are remarkably durable which is why Earth has about five Billion people. And I don't see him having any better or worse luck at getting laid although for a while he had better get use to lying on his back and letting his partner jump all around. Good Luck.

I broke my femur a while ago and i have a rod through its center. My leg has occasional pain, but other wise it is very close to 100 percent of what it used to be. In fact, it is supposed to be stronger now becasue it has a slightly thicker diameter. I do have less endurance on the leg, but I have to strain it a lot for it to hurt. I live a really normal life, and apart from occasional discomfort from tendon damage, it is as if I had never broken it. Also, there is no effects on sexual stuff on the long run. Really.

he will be as right as rain maybe better so dont worry.. be happy

Much of healing and health comes from the person themsleves. What I mean by this is it all depends on your brother. It will be a while for him to recover. He may have arthitits when he is older and cold wheather may bother him. But he is only limited by himself. Sexually as long as the third leg was not broken I am sure he will be fine, though pain medications can effect rectile function.

Femur fractures (thigh bone) generally take about 4 weeks to heal after they have been repaired by rodding. Yes, people do walk after them. It takes a little physical therapy and practice but the younger the person when it happens, the better the chances of success in rehab.
It shouldn't affect his life too much after the incisions heal, he had his surgery 20 days ago so he is basically out of the woods for many post operative problems such as fat embolism (a stroke caused by bone marrow fatty tissue {in certain fractures of the long bones such as the femur or the upper arm bone the humerus fat can be released into the blood stream and that fat becomes lodged in the vessels of the brain or in the lung}). Is he on blood thinners such as Coumadin or Lovenox or Heparin? Those are used to keep the blood thinner to prevent blood clots from forming in the healing process.
He generally shouldn't have any problems after he has healed up. Most people go on to live a normal life.

No it will not affect him in any way. He might set off alarms at the airport security.

I fractured my femur about 5 years ago. I have no problems other than severe weather changes [cold to warm, warm to cold] or really cold weather. I only walk with a very slight limp but I can work and walk fine so don't worry about it, he'll be fine.
