I keep getting stress fractures pain in my foot!??

I am a video editor, so I sit in front of a computer all week, but on the weekend I have to film...sometimes both friday and saturday, so for about 8 hours each day I am on my feet, with a 20lb video camera on my shoulder during most of that time. On the Monday or Tuesday following, I usually feel pain from a stress fracture in my left or right foot...and it lasts for two weeks...sometimes I cannot film the following week because of them.

I have been getting them off and on for 2 years now, ever since I started this job. I do not want a new job, I like my job, but how can I help my feet...they are in pain all week while I sit at my desk, and it's hard to walk...then I have to do it all over again!!

matador - yes, i have been diagnosed with them...they took xrays, there are 2 in my left foot, three in my right. they only recommended staying off it for a while so they could heal, but in my line for work i have to film almost every weekend!

If you dont have them already, get custom orthotics made for your shoes, and good quality shoes are a given, dont cut corners with them.

This is definitely a question for an orthopedist or a podiatrist. Make an appointment. There are probably very effective support devices you can wear.

The fact that you difinitively state that you have a stress fracture, suggests that you have been diagnosed. You must, therefore, have been informed that the best treatment for a stress fracture is rest. Taking a break from the routine and doing some low impact exercise for a few weeks (six to eight) can help the bone heal. If rest is not taken, chronic problems such as larger and more persistent stress fractures can develop. Re-injury may result in a chronic foot problem and the stress fracture might never heal properly. In all cases when more detailed medical information is required, you would be advised to consult a doctor or orthopaedic specialist.
