Broke AND bipolar?

Hi-
Right now I'm just starting a new job (suddenly quit from my other one) and I can tell that I'm beginning to go back into my manic whirlwind...
I've been diagnosed as bipolar since 1999 when I went into foster care, so I had free medical and was seeing a therapist
(and taking Paxil)... I stopped taking meds when I was 17 (about 4 years ago) and now I can't afford ANYTHING right now but my disorder is getting worse.
Anyone know of free or really reduced cost assistance for bipolars?
Websites or numbers, or things that you've done yourself.

I live in Southern Oregon.

Talk to someone in your state health department. You may be eligible for Medicaid.

check out your local health department or department of human services. they have lots of programs and insurance assistance that you can qualify for that will cover the cost of your medication or treatment.

call your state social services.

I was in the same situation. I quit my job, filed for Social Security Disability, and went into homeless shelters until my SSDI was approved 3 years later. You have to have medical records with your diagnosis on them. And you can hire an attorney for no money down to help you with your claim. I got $45,000 backpay for 3 years, bought a house and I get enough money monthly to live a quiet country life. If no doctor will see you for lack of money, go to the emergency room for help. They can at least write down the diagnosis and you will have some medical records to work with. Good Luck!

Hi you could see if your doctor can give you free samples until you get back on your feet. also try the NAMI web site they are very good and well known for helping people find what they need. check with your local health department and if there is an adult social services try them as well.
take care good luck.
