I still experience pain from an old foot injury. Sometimes I can barely walk on it. Is this normal? |
I fractured and displaced the 2nd, 3rd and 4th metatarsals in my right foot four years ago. I had two surgeries to correct it and still have a plate and screws on the 3rd metatarsal. Is pain and occaisonal swelling normal so far out from the actual injury? The pain isn't usually bad but somewhat constant. I had a foot injury eleven years ago... I too had surgery... several times. My foot still hurts and always will, arthritis will haunt you for all time now... anti-inflammatory medications will help some. Talk with your Doc. Wear good shoes! It is most likely normal. After a significant injure, many people continue to experience pain or discomfort for life. (I strained a ligament in my foot 12 years ago and got proper treatment, but there are still days that I can barely walk on it) However, you may want to check with your doctor to ensure that none of the screws or plates have started to come loose (it happens) or any other potential problems. i would suggest amputation. that's probably your best bet. There can always be bone spurs, get an xray to check it out. As time goes by Arthritis will set in and you will get swelling and discomfort especially in cold and damp weather |
