Toe/foot injury?

hello everyone. I wrote on here last year about a toe that was broken. It has only gotten worse and I am not quite sure what to do. I stubbed my pinky toe on a chair leg last thursday. It snapped and i thought right away ok i broke my toe. But now not just my toe hurts but also the bone in my foot right above the toe. I am just wondering what would be the best thing to do? my foot is swollen and purplish(pretty bad bruise). thanks for any advice. Angie

Well I think you definitely broke that pinky toe, and some other bone in your foot as you said, especially if there is swelling and bruising. I would go have my foot x-rayed, to make sure nothing is broken, it could be a bad sprain, but from your description and that you actually heard the bones cracking, really sounds like bones are broken, and maybe should be in a plaster cast to heal. In meantime, before having your foot and toe x-rayed, use ice, see if swelling goes down. Another thing you can do is to tape your pinky toe to your other two toes next to it, with speacial tape for that, or masking tape, I did that once, had 3 toes sprained and swollen and purple, green bruises. My doctor at the time told me to apply ice to the area, and to tape the injured toes to the non injured toes for support. I also had a broken toe when I was a teenager, I was limping for 2 months, and then it was crooked, my Dad said at the time that if my toe was broken, then I couldn't walk. Well, just goes to show that you can still walk if middle toe broken. Then I showed it to my Dad 2 months later and I said, see it was broken, since now it is a bit crooked. so then he agreed, but what good did it do me after the fact, lol. Wishing You A Speedy Recovery!!! Mermaid199

No one here is a doctor. See a podiatrist, he will be able to help you the most. And go to a male podiatrist, I went to a female one and she was terrible! Just make sure he's nice, cause if the doctor isn't pleasant, that's a very big turn-off.

First, you should ice it for awhile. Give it rest. I know it will be hard (or not!) but just take it easy for a couple of days. If it show any signs of infection, see a doctor. You should see a doctor even if it doesn't show infection. If it is serious and you wait too long, you will lose your toe. I hope you feel better.

It is very possible to get an infection in such an injury. Go see a doc.
