How do you keep the swelling down in a foot injury?

I dropped a heavy object on my toe... it broke the skin and it is swelling. What should I do?

(1) Don't walk on it for a while.
(2) Call your doctor ASAP to have him look it over.
(3) (a)If there is an open wound, wash it off with water and hydrogen peroxide, add Neosporine.
(b) Bandage and/or wrap in gauze.
(c) Aleve is an anti-inflamatory. If you've got it, take it.
(4) Lay down and elevate your foot... make sure it's above the rest of your body. So... lay on the couch or your bed but put a few pillows under your foot so that it's higher than the rest of you.
(5) Apply icepacks.
(6) Find out if anyone has crutches you can use.

Put ice on it.

Cover the broken skin with gauze and tape. Then ice it for 15 minutes, and then off and apply heat for 15 minutes...alternate back and forth.

Ice, IBProferin..

Keep your foot above your heart youknow elevate your foot put
some ice onit good luck becareful

Ice, rest, and elevation. Repeat as needed.

An 'ice bath' will stop the swelling... fill a bucket with ice water, and submerge your foot... it'll hurt like crazy, but it works.

Afterwards, keep it elevated.

go to the doctor immediately dont waste a second here!!!

ice

antiifamators like aspirin

doctor?

ICE, ice, and more ice... keep that toe on ice as much as you can stand. That is the only way to keep the swelling down. It's very important NOT to walk on it and to keep the foot elevated higher than the head so that the blood will flow back down out of the foot which will help keep the swelling down as well. You need to get to the doctor right away to see if you have any broken bones!!

hope you feel better soon!

1. Clean the broken skin, and swab with hydrogen peroxide.

2.Then deal with the swelling, by soaking your foot in a bucket of icy water.

3. Later, keep your foot elevated, don't walk on it much.

A bag of frozen peas can substitute for an ice pack or a bucket of ice water.

Rest, ice and elevation.

ice, keep the foot elevated too

Switch between ice and heat and, take ibuprofen, keep your foot resting and if it's not better tomorrow go to the doctors because it could be broken.

ice for the first 24 hours; then heat after.. keeping it in a raised position!

keep ur foot elevated and apply ice

soak your foot, keep foot elevated, if skin is broken wash and put anitbactic cream on it and keep it clean if it looks like an infection is happening go to your doctor and let the doctor look at it hope it is ok and you feel better soon

soak it in cold water

ELEVATE THE FOOT.AND USE ICE PACKS.......

Ice it. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. Repeat x3 for the first 24 hours. Keep it elevated (on a pillow is good) STAY OFF IT!!

Clean it up with mild soap and water then:

RICE =
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Make sure you only use ice for 15-20 minutes at a time.
