Possible Gangrenous foot?

I suffered a foot injury this weekend at a party where a drunken person managed to stop on my toe while falling. I thought my toe was broken- I could hardly walk.

My nail (at least half of it) has turned black predictably. This part I feel is normal. However, the skin on the left side of my toe (where the nail normally meets the skin) has turned black as well- not a lot, just about a quarter of a millimeter down. The area around it looks slightly inflamed.

I'm going to my college's doctor today and I'm wondering if I should request to go to the hospital. The black skin is freaking me the hell out.

sounds like a bruise to me as well.

gangrene makes you VERY ill and your foot would be doing the following

-the black area would be spreading rapidly
-the area would be red, swollen, and hot to touch
-the area would be draining a foul smelling, green or yellowish brown pus
-you more than likely would be running a fever of 100.5 or higher

my guess is it's just a nasty bruise and some redness/swelling is normal with injuries.

i wouldn't worry about this too much-give it a couple of days to start healing and you should be fine. the bruise can take up to 2 weeks to fully heal though

good luck!!

you should go to the ER right now.

the black skin could be a bruise although its dark sounds as though there was alot of weight on your foot..gangrene smells and when you have it you would know..it will be inflamed all over and it will also be hot to the touch..i dont think you have gangrene..i think you have a serious bruise
