Because of a back injury in 2001 I have numbness and pain 24/7 on outer left side foot since 2001. any cure?

I have picked up that back injury while playing football in 2001. Since then the back pain reduced and gone but left me to live with a numbness and pain, 24/7. The pain and numbness increase if I get tired and do certain things (not moving but standing in one spot long period of time, long walks, playing sports, sitting or sleeping longer than enough in one positon etc.) My left foot start feeling as if it is swollen and is bigger than the other one. Ever so often i get this stabbing feeling on the heel. Doing certain movements eases it up and makes me feel as if one single stretch or crack will release it. In the past I have seen a good number of chiropractioners, physicians, orthopedics, sports massage therapy people but in vain.
i will appreciate very much if anyone suffered from the same and got rid of it, I really would like to know how.
Thanking everyone in advance, I remain.
Tony

Nerve damage, which is what it sounds like, is a very slow healer, at approximately 1/4" per year. This means that the pain is probably not going to go away and or scar tissue may have developed and have it pinched, which is why you can move it and it pop or relieve pressure temporarily. It may also have developed a neuroma, a bubble on the nerve, that has to be surgically removed, but I do not recommend this as it is usually a temporary fix, and had the choice to do it over, would not elect to do so, the pain actually became worse not better. I'm sorry for the pain suffering, I live in chronic pain and it is very frustrating that we have so medical advancement, and yet so little for chronic pain.

i had nerve damage in my fool and it takes a long time for the nerves to regenerate, and they don't always regenerate. my injury was in 1999 and i noticed about three months ago that i don't have numbness anymore.

If it is just a pinched nerve, some simple exercises and stretches can relieve it. If it is more serious, it may require a spinal fusion. You need to check with your doctor to find out exactly what the injury is.

It is possible you could have a bulging or ruptured disk.
You may also have nerve damage.I had the same problem once
shortly after having my first child.unfortunately I didn't know what was wrong but the pain did go away after about a
month. If it bothers you severely you should see a different
doctor. And if its too severe go to the ER for some good medication.

I could have written what you just wrote but my back injury happened on the job while I was working as a CNA.Have you ever had an MRI done on your back?If not my advice is go to a neurosurgeon ASAP.I have degenerative disk disease, ruptured and bulging disk, bone spurs and nerve damage. The best bet at this point is probably surgery but that is something to be discussed in detail with your doctor and be sure to get a second, third opinion to make sure any treatment plan is right for you.If this is caused by anything in your back and since it has gone on so long untreated you are likely to have permanent nerve damage.
With or without surgery you have the right and should have your pain managed. There are some wonderful doctors and pain clinics out their to help you accomplish this.
I wish you the best and hope that all if not most of your pain can be relived.
