Girlfriend has been having lots of foot cramps. Her right big toe doesn't bend. What is wrong?

I find that my girlfriend has often been having foot cramps in her right foot. A possible related issue is that the big toe on her right foot doesn't bend at the joint (she can't get it to bend, and she can barely move her foot) while her left big toe does bend perfectly fine. I was wondering if she should consider seeking out a podiatrist. They don't generally interfere with her daily life dramatically (though she can't orgasm because she gets foot cramps before she reaches the state), and I'm concerned for her health.

She is an 18 year old female, if that helps, and was born 3 months premature (I know this is a big thing. Perhaps the joint was underdeveloped)

If there is any additional information I need to provide, please let me know.

She needs to see a podiatrist :) As well it could be the types shoes she wears ie: too constricting, style, the way she stands etc.

if she has never been able to move the toe, then I doubt that has anything to do with her foot cramps. The cramps are most likely related to her electrolyte balance. She needs to drink a great deal more water and eat some potassium rich foods, like raisins (a half cup a day is all she needs).

The other answers sounds good but also she may want to have a nerve conduction study done. I have terrible muscle spasms all over and yes it does interfere with sex (but I am 47...not 18). A toe cramp ain't no joke. This may be a underlying condition of something a bit more serious yet treatable.

drink lots of water and eat some bananas.

it isn't necessarily something to get worked up about. I'd try water and bananas or raisins or something like that and if it is still cramping then i'd probably go see a doctor.
