First a foot infection and now no pulse in foot detected?

My Dad's health has been deteriorating rapidly and now I've been told that he's been battling infections on his feet caused by a fungus. One foot has healed but the other one continues to deteriorate. Today a Home Health Care nurse was unable to detect a pulse in the foot indicating no circulation. They say this blood infection will probably become septic and eventually poison his blood. He is being kept comfortable but nothing else will be done. He is 79 yrs. old and is not diabetic.
My question is this: Does anyone know about this type of infection? How long does he have left? After my Mom passed away my sister moved him 5 hours away from our home since she has POA, etc. and did not want the hassle of coming to see him where he was (already in a Home for Dimentia patients). He still recognizes me most of the time but you never know. I just saw him a month ago & its hard for me to get away this time of year. I just need to know is anyone has any idea how long he might have?

He had heart attack & stroke in 1996. Lack of oxygen to brain caused brain damage and with age alzheimers has set in. The paramedics should never have started CPR, they had to hit him 4x with paddles before getting pulse.

Septicemia is very serious. It means that bacteria are not only IN your bloodstream, but are growing there. It doesn't mean certain death, but can cause it. Fungal infections are harder to treat however. Why have they let this infection go so long as to cause this severity, and why are they just letting him go? Sounds like something is up. I know they can amputate (as with diabetic patients who let foot infections get so bad the foot/leg turns "black") as a last resort. Sounds odd to me.

There is no saying. What is the cause of his dementia? If it is arthrosclerotic disease, that means all of his arteries could be effected, thus the lack of pulses to his extremities and brain. If there is no blood going to his foot, he cannot fight an infection. It's hard not being able to see him, but that won't affect his prognosis, don't feel guilty (easier said than done, I know). Not providing life saving measures is sometimes the kindest thing we can do for our loved ones, delaying the inevitable when there is no quality of life helps us and not the patient. God will do what he will at this point. Love them and thank them for what they have given you.

Sounds like the original cause of all that's going on is a foot ulcer.

Foot ulcers can be caused by poor circulation to the legs, diabetes, or pressure ulcers (or bedsores)

After an ulcer gets infected, it can spread to the the rest of the bloodstream and cause sepsis.

Giving antibiotics may help...worth a shot if that is what he wanted under his living will. If not then definitely, keeping him comfortable and pain free is the best thing to do in keeping with his wishes.
