Is the promise of universal health care really a scam?

The Democrates promote universal health care as a means of providing affordable health coverage for childern and the elderly. Is the reality of universal health care totaly different? Does it provide needles and drugs for drug addicts, abortion on demand, free health care for illegal aliens, expensive aids treatsments, condomes in the schools and meds and treatments for every person that makes poor choices? (ex. smokers, drug users, alcoholics, gay lifestyles etc....) And then expects the taxpayers to foot the bill for their choices.

It is a scam to get your vote. Taxpayers will have to foot the bill and you'll be paying for every illegal who can sneak into the country.

Gee, I think you forgot a few. Fat people to eat themselves to death; Anorexic's; Bad Drivers; Pedestrian's who are foolish enough to walk in bad neighborhoods and get mugged; people who stupidly catch colds by touching things other sick people leave on objects; people who shoot guns and maim others; women who are raped, because of course they shouldn't have put themselves in the position of being abused. Did I forget something??

Universal healthcare costs money. It has to be born by someone. Frankly, I think there should be some basic plan that everyone must pay into to receive. It should be manditory, so the costs are spread and risks are mitigated across the board. My mom is 70...she has medicare.... once the dollars for each year are spent...doctors refuse to accept appts for medicare patients....so I'm not seeing "good" things if we do not have a right to see the doctor when we need.

I do, however, love my healthcare spending account. It allows me to go to the doctor and now that I have to pay for things...question him about the use of less expensive drugs. I see the value in this option. I wish others would too!

I have been in two different Universal Health Care systems. One is where you pay tax and insurance every week, before you get the cash. Likewise your employer pays a contribution. That tax, insurance entitles you to see a Doctor, be admitted to Hospital, or be treated. However if you need a antibiotic, you also have to pay for the Pharmacist to dispense the pill. Likewise, if you have a accident, find out you cannot work again, you are entitled to Disability Allowance, a weekly payment. On retirement you are entitled to a State Pension. However you are also entitled to take out private health insurance, private pension and gain tax rebate on your income. Therefore either way you are 'covered' for all ills that you may encounter in your life.
Two is what I am in at the moment. You work, again you pay tax and insurance every week, before you get your cash. Again your Employer pays a contribution. Again you are entitled to see a GP, but have to pay and pay again for the pill, but both those charges can entitle you to a tax rebate. Likewise you pay a small amount when admitted to Hospital, whereupon the treatment; x-ray, surgery, whatever is free and the small amount can be reclaimed on tax rebate. Likewise you can also take out private health care insurance and pension. Likewise you get a tax rebate for the private health care insurance and pension. If push comes to shove you end up disabled, then you are given Disability Allowance a weekly payment from the State and then when you retire a State Pension.
I do not know what happens, in your system, if for example at the age of 30 you succumb to Rheumatoid Arthritis and cannot work? You have paid for your health insurance, but now unable to work can no longer pay for the health insurance. You are not entitled to compensation as it was not a accident. You cannot work, so how do you survive?
I ceased working at 35 due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and the State give me a Disability Allowance, as I paid into the Universal FUND when I was working. Likewise, I have just been given a wheelchair, have been measured for an electric wheelchair. I am in a flat that the State pays rent on, let alone pays towards my electricity Bill, telephone Bill and so on. I have a American Friend who moved here when she succumbed to MS, because she gets more help here from the Universal Health Care FUND than she would in USA! The idea of a Universal Fund, if you are a drug addict and need rhab to get you back to work, where you become a tax payer, the price is worth it. If you fall prgenant, single, do not want to be a single Mother but continue in your job, paying tax into the Fund, then you can avail of a abortion. It is not a question of 'poor choices' we all will face problems in our life, some of our choice, some not of our making, but it means because we have paid into this FUND, we are entitled to now draw down on it. Good Luck
