Part of leg and foot went slightly numb?

Several days ago I noticed that the top of my foot as well as a portion of my calf muscle felt slightly "numb." There isn't the "tingly" sensation that you get when your foot falls asleep... but it is close. There is also a very, very slight loss of muscular strength that I notice when I walk or move my foot around. (Sort of like when your foot falls asleep).

I don't have any other symptoms and haven't had any injuries of any sort. I'm in good health (that I know of), not overweight, mid-thirties, etc. It's just strange that one morning I woke up and I had a bit of this numb feeling going on.

I'll likely check with my Dr. in the next day or two. Does anyone have any thoughts re: what this might be? My Dr. isn't a brain surgeon if you know what I mean. So, I want to encourage him to check certain things if he doesn't think of it. (Thanks!)

this may be nothing at all or something serious. your case may develop from one of two reasons, vascular or neurological. vascular: DVT (Deep Venous Thrombosis), varicose veins, or compressed artery. neuorological: from the brain, the spinal cord or leg nerves. ask your DR. to check your leg, your back & your reflexes. some helpful investigations would be: Doopler on leg arteries & veins, lower back x-ray or MRI, Electroneurogram, and CT brain.
make sure to tell your DR. about ANY family history of vascular or neurological diseaes.Wishes to get well soon.

My foot numbness is related to a back injury. I'd suspect it has something to do with your spinal cord. If he checks your reflexes, he should be able to tell you where the problem is. I don't know how far he'll be willing to go with diagnostic tests, but an MRI would show where and what it is. I hope it's just one of those passing things, but it's good to get it checked out.

You may want to try a neurologist. Also, it could be you may have a pinched nerve or it may not be nothing. Sometimes the body acts funny one time and it never happens again.
