What health problems can green mold cause?

We just discovered the wall in my son's room that was behind his captain's bed is entirely covered with mold. It's about a 3 x 6 foot area that's just all green mold, more conentrated along the floor boards. We are living in an apartment and know this is up to the landlords to fix, but I'm just curious to know how should it be properly fixed? I'm worried that if it's not taken care of the way it should be, it could caues problems for my son. I'm not sure how long the mold has been there, but fortunately he's been sleeping in our room for the past couple weeks. He's only 2. I haven't noticed any health problems with him, other than a runny nose, but it has cleared up. Any advice anyone could give me? I'd greatly appreciate it. God bless.

There are thousands of molds and each has it's own species. It's impossible to say what kind of health concerns can arise from "green mold". The only way to determine what kind of mold exists is to obtain a certified mold inspection. The inspector should send a swab sample of the green mold to an AIHA accredited laboratory for analysis. Your analysis should include the species of mold(s) identified, the colony counts, and the concentrations. And, of course, they should include some information about the molds that were found in your home including any health concerns that they can create.

It's also important to understand that with mold, what affects one person greatly may have no affect on another person. Most molds are potentially allergenic. A select few species are considered by some to be "toxic" because they have the potential to release mycotoxins into the air. Breathing in mycotoxins can be very unhealthy.

Your concerns about your toddler son are valid. In addition to collecting a swab sample, your mold inspector can also take an air test. That air test, more importantly, will let you know what species of mold are in your indoor air environment. Compared to a sample of the outdoor air, your inspector will be able to determine if the air inside your apartment contains elevated mold levels, including the species of mold that exist within the air sampled. Again, the samples should be analyzed by an AIHA accredited laboratory.

This is a major problem with some apt housing, your health concern is real especially younger people. health problems could be numerous leading to cancer.

Mold can cause recurring infections and lead to asthma and respiratory issues. However Shaklee Organic cleaning products can kill off mold effectively from homes and clothing. You can try it and hope the problem will die. You should always keep your windows open a crack even during freezing weather, to neutralize the air and let out the humidity.
