How is being overweight dangerous to my health.?

Hi,
I'm 5 foot 4 3/4 and almost 140 pounds and I'm not even 18 yet. I want to know exactly how this may harm my health, now and in the future, and how to motivate myself to get healthy by losing about 10 to 15 pounds. If anyone can help me, that would be a lot of help.
I'd also love to penpal with someone else looking to get healthy. It doesn't matter how much weight you need to lose; I'd just love to talk to someone dedicated.

your not in a dangerous stage, however no one is safe. the same things that cause obesity also cause other complications such as heart disease and diabetes.

just make sure you are doing areobic exercises everyday. its best to just do a full body exercise for 30min a day to exercise your heart by increasing your heart rate through a prolonged exercise. these exercises include, biking, running, jogging, (waalking, for beginnners) swimmming, surfing, basically anything that keeps your heart at a higher speed for longer than 30min.

the exercise for your heart helps prevent alot of problems.

next eat right and in moderation. metabolism is important so eat less but more frequently. monitor the amount of sugars you are ingesting to prevent diabetes.

look at the number one killers in america and you will see most are related to being overweight. but honestly do not fear your current weight. its not too bad.

Having too much weight on your body puts more pressure on your organs to work harder to pump blood to more area....As you go on with life especially being a female....you tend to gain weight in your hips and breat region....which can make more stress on your back and neck from your chest...and hips causing possible bad elignment of your pelvis...I am currently going through what your trying to do....if you would like to chat...I dont mind....

p.s. I find that the best motivation is removing anything negative around you and any energy that is causing you to feel like your not doing anything right....feel free to contact me...jewels85_99@yahoo.com

Body weight, Body mass index, Skin fold testing etc are all generic yardstick measuring methods for determining overall health.

Diet and Lifestyle are the true measures of health. Being active; running, weight lifting, swimming martial arts (whatever), and eating a diet consisting of plenty of leafy greens, fruits and vegetables, without excessive refined sugars are the path to true health.

Remember you are what you eat. Or as I tell me patients ... "Garbage in, is garbage out" in otherwords treat your body like garbage and thats how it will turn out.

Take care of your body and it will take care of you.

good luck

I'm 43, 5'6" and just lost 27 lbs. down to 173 and I can tell you that it has improved every single aspect of my life. Physically, emotionally, self-esteem, confidence, financially (I have more money, because I have more energy to work). My high blood pressure is gone and my blood work and urine/kidney/liver tests all came back perfect. So coming from an older age perspective, start taking care of yourself now. Exercise daily, at least 3x a week and be aware of the food/fuel you put in your body, fruits, veggies, water. When outside, lather on sunscreen, your skin will thank you when you get to be my age. If you don't start now, you can look forward to stomach problems, heart problems, joint problems, back problems, self-esteem issues, etc. Hope this helps!

Hello

being overweight may harm you in the following ways:

1) by raising the risk of heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure and hormone-related (like, breast cancer for women and prostate cancer for men) and other (colon) cancers

2) by wearing out your joints and tendons

You happen to be just mildly above the average weight for your height however it's great that you want to take care of it before it becomes a much bigger problem!

I am about 5 foot 2, and I weighed about 135 at high-school graduation. Then I gained 10 pounds during my freshman year of college, and another 15 sophomore year. :-( I joke that being baptized was good for losing 5 pounds (resolution of spiritual crisis), declaring an academic major was good for losing 5 pounds, and so forth.

In 1989, I weighed 135 again. When the Loma Prieta earthquake hit, I lost the energy to do recreational eating (e.g., going down to the lunch truck in the morning for french fries). I think I lost about 5 pounds that way, which put me at 130. At 130 pounds, I can run for buses. At 135, I have to let them go by. So I quickly lost another 5 pounds or so.

It's a battle, and I wish you well. I'm not sure that I can recommend transit as a weight-loss program (smile), but it does seem to function in that manner for me.

You're not actually overweight. And it's not being overweight that is harmful to your health, but being 'overfat'. You can be technically overweight and not be overfat. Also carrying too much body fat around your abdomen is a health issue as this puts you at an increase risk of developing heart disease and diabetes. Your waist shouldn't be more than 32 inches.

HTH : )

Here's motivation, think of what you strive to look like and it should all fall in to place if you just stick to a good diet.
