Is going on a 1200 calorie diet good for my health to lose weight because i am 5 feet 6 and weigh 177 pounds? Why 1200 Calorie Diets Fail go for it god luck my friend and yes and break a leg Most experts will say to reduce your diet about 500 calories a day to lose a pound of weight a week, which is the best way to maintain weight loss. One pound of fat equals about 3500 calories. 1200 calories will make the weight loss a bit slower. yes, go for it. but what will really help you is calorie-count.com check it out. you can lose weight or maintain weight. it will tell you how much to eat, wat frame you are, and you can record what you eat so you can keep track of your calories! it made me lose 2 lbs in 1 week! No. Dieticians recommend losing a max of 2 lbs per week. 3500 cals per pound = 7000 cals per week for 2 lb weight loss which is a 1000 calorie deficit per day. So aim for about 1800 calories per day and 40 min excercise. Without adequate nutrition you are at risk of regaining the weight, slowing down your metabolism or losing muscle mass. Try to make an appointment with your doctor/dietician to figure out a safe and healthy weight loss plan. Are you male or female? That is very important. 1200 calories is sufficient for a woman but not for a man. It also depends upon what you are eating. Variety...you need fruits and vegetables and good quality protein every day, some dairy products or soy also every day and a serving (1/2 cup) of whole grains. Just any 1200 calories will not keep you healthy (if you eat only 1200 worth of junk food for instance.) The average person requires 2000 calories a day to maintain their weight, anything less will help u loose the weight. 1200 cal is still a very resonable amout of cal to consume. Yes, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, find your ideal calorie intake and exercise rate so when you get to your ideal weight YOU KEEP IT. Ideally you should check with a doctor and/or nutritionist. The best way to lose weight is gradually, not all at once. It would be best to determine you basal metoblic rate (the number of calories you would burn just doing nothing). From there you add on the various activities you do in a day to determine how many calories you burn in a day. For me, by BMR was a bit over 1600 cal. Plus I cycled and did other things. I needed to lose quite a bit of weight and I consumed about 1600 calories a day and lost 1.5 pounds a week. I don't think you want to try to lose weight at a faster rate than that. |
