I'm going to tell my mom about my eating disorder so i can go to a doctor...?

i finally decided to tell my mom sometime before this friday but i think i might get cold feet and not do it. and i don't know what to expect once a dr. diagnoses me. what do they do for eating disorders? like will i have to be hospitalized? i'm really really dreading this...

i'm a 16 year old girl, btw.

First of all, good for you on deciding to tell someone! Once you do that, the hardest steps are over! Congrats! What they do will depend on your severity. Since you were able to recognize your problem yourself, my guess is it won't be as difficult for you to recover as a lot of people, but it will still take time. In serious cases, you may need to be hospitalized, otherwise, sometimes it just requires going to see an eating disorder specialist once a week, or a couple times a week. It is a case-by-case thing, not a set list of what they do. Good luck with everything! I hope you are well soon!

good idea

There is a difficult road ahead of you, but not as difficult as the one you've been walking alone!!!!

I hope you can keep that courage and tell her because your life will be alot EASIER once you get some help!!!

Stay strong, you will thank yourself a year from now when you're healthy and feeling better!! (Not to mention you will stop all that damage to your body!!)

You are doing the right thing by telling your mom so that she can help you through this. The doctor will talk to you and then decide on a treatment plan for you. This does not mean that you have to be put in the hospital because there are lots of out patient treatments for eating disorders. I think you are to be commended for telling your mom and also for getting help.

good i think going to your mom was very smart

Just think of how much better it will make your life in the long run.

Thats something very serious. An eating disorder can and will make you very sick, it can even kill you. I'm not sure what they do, but good luck

All good answers. You've just made the first step in healing and taking care of yourself! Good luck. You'll be fine.

I AM SO PROUD OF YOU FOLLOW THROUGH IT MIGHT SAVE YOUR LIFE. the doctor will evaluate your condition and do some blood work if he feels you need to be admitted he will explain that you may need to be rehydrated or given some vitamins and other nutrients to stablize your system. There is an underlying cause for the disorder and a therapist is the best way to help with the process of resolving the emotional side of the disorder. PLEASE do not be afraid once you understand th e why's you will be able to work towards a healthy eating behavior to maintain your size. today many young women suffer from self image and esteem problems. part to do with this societies concept of a beautiful women.
