My feet swell a lot & I'm not pregnant. What can I do to help it?

I'm not sure when my feet first began swelling, but I know that it was after my Papaw got fatally ill, which was a little more than 2 years ago. I also use the computer a lot, & I'm in college. I don't exercise much, but I'm trying to walk more. I have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, asthma, hypothyroidism, carpal tunnel, and high cholesterol. I also have had high blood pressure the last couple dr visits, & I have a bulging L5 S1 disk in my lower back. I am on 2 pain meds, 1 anxiety med, 1 depression med, 1 cholesterol med, & 1 thyroid med. I'm going to the dr at the beginning of November... I guess my real question is if there could be something seriously wrong with me that's making my feet swell. I looked at a bunch of sites & most of my probs were listed as possible causes, so... I was just wondering if maybe there's more to it than I know...

I have the same problem and I'm not able to find out why my feet swell.I too have high cholesterol and blood pressure, asthma, and have had surgery on L5.
While I can't be 100% sure, I think the swelling in my feet is caused by damage to my sciatic nerve. the reason I think this is because my herniated disc was mostly on the right side, and it's my right foot that swells the most.
Anyway, without being totally sure, the symptom is being treated with diuretics or "water pills" to help me extra fluids.

Usually when this happens this indicates poor circulation or water retension. Something as simple as a diuretic will help.
However, what is happening to you may be a side effect from one or more of your meds.
Just remember, check with your doctor first before taking anything. You can also ask a pharmacist, about that or any drug interactions you may be having.

The high blood pressure could be the cause of the swelling, you need to let your doctor know ASAP. Also keep your feet up.

I agree with xxangel1, it could just be a circulation problem. But in light of the other conditions you are suffering from, I would guess that you are moving into diabetes territory. My roommate was just diagnosed with it. I've been experiencing swelling in my feet that has become increasingly worse in the past year. I have had swelling from my feet to my waist. When my roommate started seeing results by cutting back on carbs, I decided to try it. Originally exercise was the only thing helping but I'm having trouble breathing so I can't exercise much. So I started limiting my carbs to less than 60 carbs per meal and it made a difference overnight! Enjoy your favorite meats and pull away from carbs and see what happens.

Hi,

Hope this helps.

Every problem you mentioned may be caused by dehydration or cause dehydration.

From taking meds to water retention.

Drink water. Just water.

Start yesterday.

Look around my noncommercial website - just about everything on there applies to you:

http://www.healthy-water-best-filters.co...

Here's a quick start -

Drink 2 glasses in the morning, half hour before breakfast

Drink 1 - 2 glasses half hour before all meals

Drink 1 - 2 glasses 2 hours after meals

Drink 2/3 of your bodyweight in ounces. (Ex. Weigh 100lbs? Drink 67 ounces)

Don't worry if you don't like water, you will love it in a week or two.

Be patient, you may need 1 - 2 weeks to see improvement.

Finally, the worst that could happen on this is you will have lots of good healthy water in your system.

Oh, about your walks - great idea.

Here's what you should aim for - 2 walks per day, 10 - 12 hours apart. Build up to an hour per walk. Try and relax when walking. Good thoughts, good music, whatever.

Good luck, you're young, you can do it.
