Food poisoning?? |
I cooked a frozen chicken pie for dinner. It said cook for between 50-55 minutes so I cooked it for 55mins. When i cut it open it was only luke warm so i put it in the microwave for about 4 minutes. We ate half of it but I just wasn't happy with it. How likely are you to get food poisoning from a frozen pie that was made with pre cooked chicken? I'm just worried as my 4yr old ate it with us? If so how long before we are in the clear so to speak? xx About 4 hours - If you aren't feeling sick by then, you should be ok. I highly doubt you could get food poisoning from that dish though - the freezing would have killed the bacteria and the chicken was cooked already. Freezing does not kill bacteria, merely stops the binary fission therefore halting the production of toxins which cause the food poisoning. Regards Chris Report It If the chicken was pre-cooked, I'm not sure what sort of food poisoning you are worried about. I'm sure you are fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It usually not from precooked chicken. If you had food posioning you would be able to tell within a few hours. I had it once. It is horrible. Trust me you would know. If the chicken was pre-cooked, then you did nothing to harm the chicken. If you do somehow develop poisoning, which shouln't happen, you would probably be able to sure the company. not from frozen pie you get it from food that was not kept cold or hot ( luke warm) for several hours bacteris incubates and grows in it. Never had it but heard it sucks ... Good luck If the chicken was pre-cooked, and you cooked it for 55 minutes, then you shouldn't have any risk of salmonella poising. If by some small chance you or your family did get it, you would already know. The symptoms of food poisoning (ie, stomach cramping, throwing up, diarrhea, nausea, fever, etc) show up fairly quickly. currently suffering from food poisoning and its not pleasant! you will be alright food poisoning is caused by bacterie and freezing kills that you will know pretty quick if you are going to get sick Unlikely to be serious food poisoning. Possibly a slight "upset stomach". I reckon on 99% OK, no ill effects. usually the frozen dinners are already cooked so you shouldnt have to worry especially since you did cook it for the specified time, plus more. Usually food poisoning happens within a couple hours. when i ate undercooked chicken it only took about 50 minutes b4 i got sick. It is unlikely since it was cooked in the microwave. She would have already had some vomiting and diarhea. if your going to be sick usually between 4 to 8 hrs after eating hopefully you will all be fine all the best Oh you'd know it right away. When I got food poisoning from a resteraunt within 30 min I was throwing up violently in the bathroom. I think in most cases it takes less than 30 min to react. I'm sure you'll be fine. Pre-cooked chicken in a frozen pie doesn't sound to bad unless it had been allowed to thaw then put back in the freezer. Then I might be worried If you haven't gotten sick within 2 to 4 hours, you should be all right. Besides, you won't get sick off of pre-cooked chicken. Only if it's raw and undercooked. You two should be just fine. I'd have your oven checked though, it should have cooked. I'm more concerned over that oven! If you ate it last night, don't worry about it, you'd be sick already. Food poisoning is often MISTAKEN for a "24 hour flu". The symptoms are the same, slight to high fever, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue. If the chicken was precooked in a pie that just needed to be heated up, your odds are very slim that anyone will get sick. You would know within about 48 hours. more likely to get Salmonella, not food poisoning unless it was outdated.... you would feel sick already though You should be fine. There were no chunks of ice in the pie, and nuking it tends to kill any lingering bacteria. If you feel fine after a couple of hours you will probably be OK and so should your little one. You are probably OK . If the pie was only warm after 55 minutes , what temperature did you set the oven at. Usually 5 or 6 . Personally I am not keen on frozen meals like that.. I prefer to get chilled that you keep in the fridge, but of course you have to use them within 2 or 3 days. so it means shopping more often. The fact that the meat had been cooked before freezing it should be OK. The danger is really in frozen raw meat or fish that is not thawed and cooked properly.;I know most processed frozen foods and dinners say cook from frozen, On the rare occasions I have one I usually err well on the side of safety as regaeds cooking time and temperatures. Hope you are all OK. I think you should be. if it was lukewarm then u put it in the microwave for 4 mins it should have been ok. microwave will make the pastry soggy. usually 4-6 hours u will start to feel bad if u have food poisoning. yr 4 year old would probably be affected quicker due to smaller size. as long as you made sure the food was thoroughly cooked in m/wave no probs. One word of caution though - be careful with frozen pies etc., lift the lids off and check for mould (in that respect do the same with uncooked pies/pasties) this can be black grey or green, and for foreign objects in particular insects - my daughter found one when just about to put spoonful in kiddies mouth and I still say she should have held out for much more than the paltry 拢20.00 she got from the store concerned. and last year it was mould and again she took minimum compensation. So do be careful for my concern as yours for your child's safety (and she needs you to stay fit as well don't forget) Also always make sure if using the main oven that it is hot enough before you pop the food in, Had to make my son realise that was part of the probs he was having. |
