Is this food poisoning?

A week ago I went to a restaurant and ordered a steak. The next morning I woke up and was incredibly dizzy (seasick dizzy), I had to walk to the bathroom with my hand on the wall. As the day went on I got diarrhea worse and worse. Throughout my ordeal I have not vomited and I don't have stomach cramps but I am light-headed, tired constantly but can't sleep, I have no appetite, and I had chills (shivered a lot). Right now it's a week later and I've improved somewhat (no chills, can sleep better), but I haven't completely recovered. I still have diarrhea (slowly going away though), and I'm still groggy in the morning and very lethargic. So could this be food poisoning? I've read that it can last from 1 day to two weeks. Or is this something else? Some of my friends are skeptical because they say food poisoning doesn't last this long and typically you would get stomach cramps and vomiting. I suspect some kind of virus, too bad I don't have the steak, I would get it tested.

In my personal experience, those symptoms sound right, but they only usually last for a full day, and slightly the next. It might be something worse, but not as intense as food poisoning since you haven't vomited. Just my opinion though, and I'm no doctor.

Sounds like it to me.Now seriously what you need is a good detox to rid your body of the toxins.

I had it once after eating an undercooked burger.

I was sick and had diarrhoea for a day, but then that was it.

Obviously it took a day or two extra for all the effects to wear off, but the worst lasted for only a day.

Chances are you've got a stomach bug or something.

hmm reckon you're right about the virus, it normally takes the body not more than 24 hrs to 'reject' bad food although you could have been poisoned initially. anyhow hope you're feeling better soon

i had food poisoning before and i was only ill for a couple of days, and it probably wasn't the steak if you had salad with it that was the most likely cause unless the steak was off.

i had food poisoning last yr from mcdonalds i got all the signs the next day i was only sick the once but the diarrhea was out of this world i was going around 5 times an hr and i had that for about 5-6 days everything i ate or drunk it was going through me i then started to get the pains in the side we then decided that i should go to hospital when i got there i was really dhydrated i had to go on a drip for 2 days to build me up again i had to do samples and the hospital sent the sample to be tested it was a food poisoning called campylobactor (not sure on the spelling) and i was 6 months pregnant

I recomend you go and see your GP as you've had the symptoms more than 48 hours, it sounds like you picked up a bug of somekind rather than food poisoning. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and try to avoid dairy products if you can.
