Food Label carbohydrate weight converting?

I need to count my carbs and I know how to take the carbs and minus the fiber but when reading food labels I don't know how to get an item to 15g of carb. For instance, on a box of triscuits (reduced fat) it says 120 cal weighs 29g. There are 21g of carbs with 3 fiber which = 18g of carbs. I need to know how how to take the 18g and make it 15g. (I need to know how much it would weigh) Is there a tool online or just a simple math problem?

You could use the "means - extremes product property" to get the amount you want. So if 29g of product gives you 18g of carbs and what you want is only 15g, you multiply 15 times 29 and divide by 18. That gives you 24g. So instead of taking 29g portion of the product you take a smaller portion of only 24g of the product. That might be half a triscuit less.

The other alternative is to increase your amount of fiber. Celery is high in fiber but actually ends up being negative calories, so eating more celery could offset the amount of carbs to some degree.

A better option would be to drop the triscuits all together. They are heavily processed, too high in preservatives and too low in fiber. Celery would be a better snack, but be careful of the amount of spread (peanut butter or whatever) that you eat with it (those other calories add up quickly). Get an Atkins cookbook for a list of better sugestions on what to eat instead of triscuits.

change the weight from 29 g to about 24 g. Here's how I determined this. If, with the total weight you have and end total of 18g of carbs and you want the end result to be 15g of carbs you just adjust the weight. So, 15g of 18g equals 83%. You take the total weight and adjust it by 83% (multiply by .83)

I would look at how many crackers make one serving and figure out approximately how many carbs are in one cracker. Just go from there and figure out how many crackers equal about 15g of carb.

EX: 18 crackers equal one serving (about 18g carb.)
In this case you would eat 15 crackers to get your 15g carb. Of course the numbers won't always be this easy, but it works.

It seems to me you are not eating smart. If you need to find a mathematical way to get the right amount of carbs you need from a snack, then that snack is not for you. You are working too hard. The idea of low carb is to go with less processed foods i.e. more natural and whole foods. The idea of low carb is to change your eating style, permanently. By trying to incorporate different versions of foods you used to eat you will not change your mentality about food and will be doomed to failure.

I would recommend some nuts, cheese, veggies or berries. You can eat alot of berries or veggies for that 15 g of carb from triscuits! You could have a big spinach salad with pieces of bacon, egg, cheese, and dressing for that same 15g of carb with alot less work.
