What is Polyunsaturated Fat and Monounsaturated Fat? If the food label doesn't mention them does that mean = 0 |
I'm gonna be keeping a food journal and I was recommended the site FitDay. I'm trying to add in the correct amounts for the Pork Stew Meat I'm using for dinner so I clicked on Custom Food and I'm manually adding in all the totals that it's asking for. I'm putting in whatever the food label says on the back of the package of the pork meat, but on FitDay it also asks for me to enter the Total Fat, Saturated Fat, Polyunsaturated Fat and the Monounsaturated Fat. The label on the back of the pork meat package doesn't list the Polyunsaturated or Monounsaturated fats at all. It only lists Total Fat and then underneath that it has the Saturated Fat amount. So does that mean this pork meat I'm using doesn't have any Polyunsaturated or Monounsaturated Fat in it? Go to below link and download the SR (SR19)software (it's much easier to use than their online search). While I've found a few mistakes in their data it is for the most part very useful. If total Fat and Saturated fat numbers are equal then all fat is saturated (meat usually true). The difference between poly- and mono-unsaturated fats is in their chemistry (something with chemical bonds). Labels list the number of saturated fat grams, so subtract that from the total grams of fat and you get the number of unsaturated fat grams. |
