When you read food label and they show a sodium content how can you tell how much actual salt there is?

I have been advised to have a low salt diet and find it confusing when food labels list the sodium content and not the actual salt content

A low salt diet is a low sodium diet. Table salt is sodium chloride. Go by the grams of sodium listed on the label to stay within your restrictions.

2.4g of sodium represents 6g of salt. This is the recommended daily maximum for adults.

Food labels go by miligrams, represented as MG. (ex. 180mg) On a low sodium diet, you'll want to stay under 1800mg of sodium daily. If you're very active and you sweat A LOT, you may increase your sodium intake by 500mg or so to compensate, since you lose some salt when sweating excessively. Sodium is important in the diet for health, but you definately don't want to over-do it or under-do it.
