Fat content in food?

On food labels, there is total fat content. Then followed that it lists different fats, example saturated and so on... But when you add all the different fats it does not equal total fat content, why is that? What are the other fats that are not listed?

The USDA only requires nutritional labeling for Total Fat, Saturated Fat and Trans Fats.

Foods may contain other fats, like Polyunsaturated and Monounsaturated fats which make up the total fat content.

Food manufacturers are not required by law to break out Polyunsaturated and Monounsaturated fats, although some will voluntarily do so because these fats are considered "healthy" and they want to "advertise" this to the consumer. You will often see these fats broke out on health foods and oils, such as olive oil, avocado oil and canola oils.

Also, in some cases other fats are in such trace amounts (less than 0.5 grams) that they show as "0 grams" on a nutrition label.

Best of luck!
