Food labelling! when a food is labelled as having 50kcal what does it mean.is kcal the same as calories.?

yes ******

I'm not sure, but it almost sounds like it's saying 50,000 calories.

yep.
you're allowed 2,000kcal a day :)

i believe calories is the 'shortened' version of the name kilocalories(kcal). so basically kcal = calories.

Well, a kcal (kilocalorie) is 1000 science-class calories. However, food labels usually just call kcals "calories" for some odd reason. I call them "food calories" to distinguish them from "science class" calories.

yes
your energy need in a day is 25-30 kcal per kg
if you are 50kg you need 1500 kcal per day if you take more you get weight
