Do you trust the food labels? |
I'm counting carbs and I notice that sometimes a vary basic thing has differant carb counts among brands and it makes me suspicious. Example: Heavy cream... One brand says it has 1 g of carb per tablespoon, while another says its 0 carbs. Cream is cream, how can there be a discrepancy? Same thing with some Cheeses and coffee, etc. Is it possible that if something has less than 1 carb that they are just labeling it 0 carbs? If something has .25 carbs and I eat alot of it thinking its 0 - it adds up. Should I trust the labels? FYI, please spare me the lectures on carb diets, I am medically carbohydrate intolerant. Not only is my boyfriend a doctor and supervising my diet, but several of my friends are doctors too and my OWN doctor concur that I need to cut my carbs. I've lost 125 lbs and gone from being insulin resistant and hypertensive to being normal because of low-carb diets so I think I know the benefits thank you very much. I like to use labels as guidelines, but there's no substitute for just plain good education. Yea, I doubt they're 100% correct. That's another reason why it's good to stay away from processed stuff - it's hard to lie about whole single-ingredient foods. If you deprive your body of carbohydrates your brain functioning will suffer. Why can't people just learn to eat a variety of healthy foods in moderation, instead of killing themselves on fad diets??? Forget the labels, I continue to follow the advice an old wise doctor told me. Eat what you like, but in moderation. no, the FDA lets companies lie up to 30% on their labels You need SOME carbs, so don't go to a non carb diet. It's not healthy. I don't know if I trust Food labels.. I don't trust them like labels and sterotypes... food people could be putting anything in your food... like onces on a food item said.. low calories.. and it still was alot of calories for.. I forgot.. but it was a small amount of food.. or ones that says 0 fat.. and then I look 10gs of fat.. oh yeah thats 0.. so I am unsure.. but congrats on the weight loss! |
