Food Allergy shots? For those who know? |
I've heard that people do receive allergy shots for their food allergies. I'm allergic to fish, nuts, and alchohol. Do the shots actually help suppress the reaction? Why bother with the shot? And how long does the medication last? Allergy shots are over prescribed and a money making venture for doctors. I suffer from numerous allergies ranging from mild to life threatening and from foods, pollen, pets, chemicals, etc. I have attempted two sets of shots both of which failed. I have been seen by many specialists in allergies and immunology. On questioning one expert I learned many things most doctors would never tell their patients. My wife is on shot therapy for food allergies. She has been on them for over 30 years, and yes they have saved her. She goes in every two years for testing and evaluation. Her very life has been changed so that she can live normally. Her diet has been modified and as long as she watches if with a moderate amount of diligence, she has no problems(no physical problems nor emotional or temperament swings). She gives herself shots every four days and is happy to do it so she can exist with normal feelings. Her allergist/immunologist is located it Laguna Hills, California and is our heroine. |
