Food allergy or angioedema?

I used to eat everything untill 10 years ago when I found out that I am probably allergic to certain foods, since then, I have seen more then 12 different specialist, and took many tests to diagnose this problem. my problem with all this is that I have gotten different result from each test, and different opinion from each doctor I have seen. some of them suggested that I probably don't have food allergy but what I have may be called:angioedema. I'm not sure of all this, I sometimes feel like I can't trust these doctors anymore, so, please if you knew anything about this please help me with your advice, also need to know if there is a good clinic in my area that has a good reputation in this field, even if it's out my state Rhode Island. thx

first, thx to all of u for taking time to help me. I really appreciate this. yes, when my body reacts, I do get swelling beneath my skin, and in each time, it's in different places of my body. the scariest one is when I get it in my tongue, sometimes I can't breath
I looked every where for Mayo clinic's address closer to my area, but I couldn't find any. please help with their address. thank you very much.

OK you sound like you are ready to seriously get to the bottom of this. Go to the Mayo clinic. I Hope your insurance can cover this. Take some time off from your job and check in there, this team has a reputation for getting to the bottom of any type of allergy or unknown causative allergen. Hey, good luck and I hope you follow up on this tip. they are good there!

Good Luck again.

You didn't say, but I suppose your tongue is swelling?
Some angioedema is IgE mediated, in which case they're all right. The tests being different isn't unusual. You've probably got doctors saying close to the same thing, but using different terminology.

I can't exactly give you a clear answer - I'm pretty much "answering" you with a question.

Have you had any welts (swelling) beneath your skin? (If you had angioedema, you would probably have welts beneath your skin. The welts usually occur around the eyes and lips - but they can also be found on hands, feet and throat.)

According to a medical dictionary, (oh. great. now I have to type out a REALLY long definition.....)
Angioedema: A dermal, subcutaneous, or submucosal swelling that is acute, painless and of short duration.(It doesn't last long) It may involve the face, neck, lips, larynx, hands, feet, genitalia, or viscera. Angioedema may be hereditary (in the family) or the result of food or drug allergy, infection, emotional stress, or a reaction to blood products. Treatment depends on the cause.(If it's an infection, or something...) Severe angioedema may require subcutaneuos injections of epinephrine, intubation, or tracheotomy to prevent respiratory obstruction. Also called angioneurotic edema.

....
Hope that helps!!

Have you been to Asthma and Allergy Physicians of RI? They are good people.
