Is there such a food allergy that would make you itch all over?

Has anybody ever heard of a food allergy that would make you itch? If so, what is it usually caused by?
I think yesterday I might have eaten something (although I don't know what) and I've been itching all over ever since.

Unfortunately many foods and some drugs can cause a general itch all over. poeomoe2003 has described the symptoms very well.

Right down what you eat for the day, anything that you would not normally eat, may have caused the symptoms you describe.

Typical foods that cause allergic reactions are;
Egg whites
Fish
Peanuts
Wheat
Milk
other things could be additives, colourings, flavour enhancers.

Then there is the allergic reactions to duck/horse dander, cat & dog fur and dust etc, and even something as simple as washing powder/soaps, perfumes, cleansers and moisturizers, and a ton of other things.

Allergies should never be taken lightly, and if these symptoms continue you should see your doctor for a referral to a specialist, who will do some testing. Tip if you do have to see an allergist do keep a food diary, as this may help pin point what is going on.

any food allergy can make you itch.

Yes, there is. I couldn't eat certain type of fish. If I took it, I'll get itchy all over.

For some people, an allergic reaction to a particular food may be uncomfortable but not serious. For other people, an allergic food reaction can be frightening and even life-threatening. Signs and symptoms of a food allergy usually develop within a few minutes to an hour after eating the offending food.

The most common signs and symptoms of a true food allergy include:

Tingling in the mouth
Hives, itching or eczema
Swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, or other parts of the body
Wheezing, nasal congestion or trouble breathing
Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting
The symptoms you have depend on what type of food allergy you have.

In a severe allergic reaction to food 鈥?called anaphylaxis 鈥?you may have more extreme symptoms including these life-threatening signs and symptoms:

Constriction of airways, including a swollen throat or a lump in your throat, that makes it difficult to breathe
Shock, with a severe drop in blood pressure
Rapid pulse
Dizziness, lightheadedness or loss of consciousness

peanuts(peanut by products), fruit, shrimp(shellfish), syrup, jalapenos, milk are some food allergies that I know of. My sister is actually allergic to some things that are used to make beer (can't remember what exactly), so she can't drink beer. Allergies can be completely different from one person to the next. These are just some food allergies that I know of.

Check it out - itching can also mean a problem with the liver - most likely though an allergy

Dairy or Gluten...it's in practically everything you eat. Write down what foods make you itch when you eat them, and be tested for those.

Peanuts

Yes, there are many foods that can cause allergies. The main culprits are usually seafood, nuts, eggs, and beans. You may develop an allergy to any food, [and also medications, chemicals such as personal hygiene products, household cleansers, laundry detergents and/or softeners], even if you've eaten the food{s}, or used the medication(s) or chemical(s) before with no ill-effects. These allergies, if mild, can be treated with OTC medications like Benadryl Lotion or Benadryl 50 mgs capsules [take one capsule every 4 to 6 hours; be careful if you're going to drive a car or operate machinery because this medication usually makes you dizzy or produce somnolency]. If the itching doesn't go away within 48 to 72 hours, or the symptoms worsen {you feel difficulty breathing, have problems swallowing, notice swelling around your eyes/mouth, or redness of the skin}, go to a physician or an Emergency Room ASAP; these may be signs of a more serious kind of allergic reaction called an anaphylactic shock. This may ultimately cause a respiratory arrest, putting your life in danger if not treated on time. You'll probably need a couple of doses of intravenous and/or intramuscular medications like steroids and a prescription of follow-up medications to take at home until the symptoms subside.
