This can't possibly be a food allergy...can it?...Help!!?

So i just had desert. I made my self apple cinnamin instant oatmeal with sliced bannana. And to sweeten i added some pancake syrup. It made it too sweet though. After i ate as much as i could i threw the rest away.
Immediately after my tongue felt itchy and tingly. Never before has that happened. I've eaten bannanas since i was in a highchair, and i have the same oatmeal atleast once a week. very odd...
Was it just too sweet to eat. or do i have a food allergy.
please help.

actually it was the banana and the tongue itchy and tingly feeling you get is normal for many who eat bananas. relatively harmless.

what is worse is cutting down the banana trees for me...the stalks are full of water and it gives me a rash and itches to no end, until i wash it off that is.

it's not considered an allergy to my knowledge, but it could be. It could also be your body of saying you didn't need the pottasium.

your welcome! glad you figured it out. i love bananas in ice cream, cereal, by themselves and i'd say 9 times out of ten, it makes my mouth sorta burn...usually the roof of my mouth.
here to bananas!
and no pun intended, at least now you know you weren't going bananas! lol
hugs,

You can only handle too much sweetness...its not an allergy...its happened to me before

Is it possible that you ate somethng else within an hour or so of the oatmeal and by the time it affected your tongue, you just finished the oatmeal?

it does sound like an allrgic reaction, a potentially dangerous one too. If you start having any wheezing or problems breathing you should consider going to the E.R.

As for too sweet... it might have been a bad batch or somehow adulterated, which caused the reaction. you never know these days

Yes, this is possible. The medical profession reports that our bodies change roughly every seven years and during those changes things that we used to enjoy could now not agree with our systems. I have developed an allergy to grains at 47 which prevents me from eating breads, pastas, rice, etc., because they cause me to become bloated which in term cause a great deal of pain in my mid-section and rib cage. My advice to you is to seek out the guidance of your doctor and have the appropriate tests performed so that you know for sure and can make informed decisions.
