Is it possible to develop a food allergy overnight?

All within the past week, i think i've developed an allergy to the foods that i've always eaten. I've noticed that when I eat certain foods like chips, cashews, noodles my lips start itching and start swelling. I've eaten these foods plenty of time before and now i'm having this reaction to it.

Sadly Yes. It doesn't matter that you've eaten them all your life. You can develop a food allergy at any time and at any age. I am 40, and developed all of mine at 37. 3 years later, I developed 4 more. Write down everything that bothers you, and take it to an allergist who will do a blood test for them. If it is chips, you may be allergic to "Wheat" or "Corn". Cashews, are an allergy in themselves, unless they have been processed in a factory with peanuts, you should get both of those checked. Noodles falls under the wheat catagory. It could be a gluten allergy that you have developed. I am allergic to all major food groups, so it gets quite annoying and difficult. See your doctor, it's best not to "discover" a potentially fatal reaction on your own.

you can develop an allergy at any time as long as you've been exposed to whatever the iiritant is at least once previously. an allergy is created when your immune system recognizes something as foreign invader and creates antibodies. with each exposure your reaction will worsen. you should avoid foods foods that contain the allergen. sounds like an allergy to peanuts or gluten.

It's absolutely possible. My mom did, so I can understand what you're going through. I highly recommend that you read the ingredients label of all the foods that make your lips itch and swell to look for common ingredients. Then, go see your doctor and tell him/her what's going on. You probably need to be set up on some allergy medications and get an EpiPen. Food allergies that make your mouth or throat swell should not be taken lightly.

Yes and it is called idiopathic. It also happened to me and started when I was like nineteen. Everytime I eat chicken, seafoods, chips, etc. my skin becomes very itchy and red patches appear. The worst possible allergic reaction is called anaphylaxis meaning your airway would be constricted causing difficulty in breathing. So be extra careful with what you eat or even with what you are exposed to.

The best thing that you can do is to go to an allergologist so you can determine the foods that you are allergic to.
