Is this a food allergy? (cantaloupe)? |
About four months ago I noticed a tiny little bubble on my top lip. I gently scratched it and went about my day. By that night my whole top lip was covered in tiny bubbles that just kind of oozed and made my lip look slightly swollen. I had poison ivy about a week before and was told that once it gets into your blood stream in can show up again on irritated skin. I assumed that this is what it was. It sounds very much like an allergic reaction. It is possible that it is allergy related because as you probably know, the more times you are exposed to an allergen the severity of allergic response worsens. As for the pus filled bubbles, well that is a little odd. Most allergic reaction do not include this. Usually, this is related to viral infections. See a doctor because you have 2 symptoms that do not quite fit together. As for the itching and swelling, yes, very common for allergies. Try Benadryl for those symptoms. The generic name is Diphenhydramine is u want to save a buck or 2. A food allergy reaction can mainfest in many ways. I would pull cantalope from your diet for a couple of weeks. Let your mouth COMPLETELY heal. Then, try it again. If you have the reaction again then you know with more certainty that you are allergic to the cantalope and it is not the poisin ivy resurfacing. If u didnt wash the canelope good , they have chemicals on them , best to soak produce in vinegar cold water rinses. It does sound like an allergic reaction, and I would try to avoid canteloupe in the future. Allergic reactions can get worse the more you are exposed to the allergen and you could end up going into anaphylactic shock and dying. Talk to your doctor about the possibilities next time you go in. The thing with the poison ivy sap is it can last and be active on surfaces for months or years. You can't see it and even tiny amounts of the oil can cause rashes. Make sure you wash all your clothes and anything that came into contact with the poison ivy. If you walked through it your shoes could be covered in the oil. Then everytime you put them on you get it on your fingers. |
