Do consumers demand food additives from food companies?

Two years ago, congress passed a law called The Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act that prevented consumers from filing suit against food manufactures who put additives in their products which contribute to obesity, cancer, allergies, and congnitive problems.

I'd like to be a responsible consumer. Can anyone tell me which food corporations do not add hydrogenated fats, artificial food colors, nitrites, nitrates, sulfites, sugar, artificial sweeteners, monosodium glutamate, preservatives, artificial flavors, refined flour, salt, or olestra to their products?

And if I can't buy foods without these additives, and corporations are no longer responsible for their practices, then how can I "demand" foods that don't contain additives?

You can't. Everyone should start trying to eat more raw and natural foods, Hey, everyone, lets even try growing some of our own foods and how about eating less overall, how about that? most of us can survive living off our fat for at least a few years.
There are usually natural food stores in every city. People need to look at the back of the labels, what's in it, how many calories, grams of fat, saturated fat.
America makes it very hard to do the right thing because we are not given a choice. You have to choose a bad product or a worse product or pay for expensive natural organic food.
Corporations now run our government. They have put the business interest above the consumer interest--even when their safety is at stake. OUr vegetables and fruits are all genetically altered and chemically grown, at the expense of taste and nutrients. Our animals are tortured and pumped with toxins, antibiotics and steroids. Chemical companies make your cheese crackers cheesy, your candy fruity, and your hamburger tasting more hamburgery--I swear it is true--Fast food restaurants put chemicals in their "meat" and french fries to give them that yummy and somewhat frighteningly addictive taste. yuck. you people need to stop eating that crap.
They are actually making your food addictive on purpose so you keep buying thier product. and our government is behind them 100%.
As a people we need to eat more responsibly. Peace starts at your dinner table.

Yes they did.

yeah its called organic

darn lobbyist!!

no way is it that simple you have to contact every corporation and ask them, then request they not use them.

go to whole foods website , there are food activists groups and links that can help you stay aware, informed and become an active consumer advocate, join a consumer advocate group to learn how to demand your rights to safe food, I joined calpirg

You would do better to try to "dance on the head of a pin," which is an old saying which means "it can't be done."

You cannot trust food companies, as their lobbyists have pervaded all levels of the federal government. For example, trans fats are bad for you; the food companies lobbied the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) to allow them to state that a product has 0.0 grams trans fats, provided the levels were 0.49 per serving or below. This is a way to "hide" unhealthy foods.

There are many other examples. You cannot trust anything that a food company says or manufactures without performing a great deal of research.

If you want safe foods, devoid of additives that we don't really need, do your food shopping at nature or natural stores, which use no pesticides or additives in their foods (although you still have to do some research). The natural stores also will not sell beef injected with growth hormones, etc.

Good luck.

You'll have to start shopping at a health food store. Just about anything you pick up in an ordinary grocery store will have at least 1 if not many of those ingredients.

I dont agree with it either, btw. We put warnings on cigarettes, outlaw certain drugs, made it illegal to use formaldehyde in food. Why is it acceptable for one company to sell something unsafe and not another. Furthermore, the majority of the general public is either uneducated about the affects of these ingredients or, give up trying to avoid them because, if you go in a grocery store and try to buy something healthy, you left with no variety whatsoever.

I dont believe it is necessary for food companies to put those ingredients in their products either. It's just plain irresponsible.

But if you think this is bad, check out the effects of Dioxins in Diapers, pads and Tampons.

If it's carcinogenic, it should be illegal. Period.
